1 Day in the Life of a Seminarian

Seminarians live exciting lives filled with reading, studying, and the occasional mealtime romance. Here is a description of one day in my life that is far more more productive on paper than it is in reality.

7:40am Wake up to my cellphone alarm and think about the dream I just had about bringing a friend to Christ (Yes. These types of dreams occasionally happen to seminarians).

7:45am Crawl out of bed and stumble into bathroom.

7:50am Hop in shower.

7:58am Power walk to Greek class.

8:02am Arrive late to Greek class.

8:25am Teacher calls on me to answer question about gender/number/case of a Greek noun. I look at sentence, mumble the wrong pronunciation, and call out for a lifeline. Teacher gives me a 50/50 choice and I lose the million dollars.

9:00am Teacher goes late.

9:10am Teacher let's us out of Greek class.

9:15am Sit down in Spiritual Formation class.

9:50am Take a moment to appreciate that my teacher truly cares about our spiritual growth.

9:55am Think about unicorns.

10:30am Classroom 10 minute break.

11:45am Teacher continues to lecture on the charismatic, contemplative, evangelical, holiness, social justice, and incarnational Christian traditions.

12:15am Spiritual formations teacher lets us out of our three hour class for lunch.

12:18am Wait in lunch line while talking to pretty seminary girl.

12:19pm Try to sit next to seminary girl.

12:20pm Notice other guys sitting next to seminary girl.

12:21pm Pray God will bless my lunch food and that I'll be more funny than the other guys.

1:00pm Finish lunch.

1:10pm Check facebook.

1:20pm Read Bible and pray.

1:50pm Wake up from 'resting' in the word.

2:00pm Finish reading Bible for actual 10 minutes.

2:05pm Start reading Systematic Theology for next day's class.

3:00pm Read a book of the Old Testament for Survey of the Old Testament. Wish I didn't have to read the entire Old Testament then feel ashamed that I'm grumbling about the Word of God.

4:30pm Go for a run with fellow seminarian. Talk about theology, racquetball, and girl.

5:20pm Return from run and take a shower.

5:40pm Head to dinner.

6:00pm Finish dinner.

6:05pm Check facebook.

6:27pm Wish I had time to play video games like undergrad.

6:30pm Start Greek homework.

8:30pm Ask God why He didn't write Scripture in English.

8:45pm Finish Greek homework.

9:00pm Go to Library to finish reading book from the Old Testament.

11:00pm Library closes.

11:05pm Return to room to study.

11:45pm Give up on studying.

12:10am Climb in bed.

12:11am Pray to God I survive seminary.

  1. Lol. This sounds a lot like Bible School... except you needed to add in a game of "Counter Strike" or "Halo." Clearly you are much more spiritual and mature. :)
